Radar detects, tracks, and measures objects by transmitting radio waves and analyzing their reflections.

OVERVIEW

Radar systems emit radio-frequency energy and measure returns to determine an object's range, velocity, and characteristics. Modern defense radars span ground-based air surveillance, airborne fire control, and compact counter-UAS panels, increasingly paired with AI-based classification. Active electronically-scanned array (AESA) architectures dominate new fielded systems: multiple beam-steering elements enable simultaneous surveillance, tracking, and jamming without moving parts. Radar is widely used in air and missile defense, counter-UAS, ISR, and maritime domain awareness. Publicly-known radar suppliers include Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, RTX, Kratos, Fortem Technologies, and DRS RADA.
