Border Security
Border Security is the mission of persistent detection, identification, tracking, and interdiction of unauthorized crossings along US land and maritime borders — spanning the southwest border with Mexico, the northern border with Canada, the maritime approaches, and interior enforcement. It combines integrated fixed towers, remote video surveillance systems, ground sensors, mobile radar units, tethered aerostats, small UAS, CBP Air and Marine assets, and the C2 fabric that fuses it into a border-wide common operating picture. The mission cuts across DHS (CBP, USBP, ICE, USCG), DoD (SOUTHCOM support, National Guard), state law enforcement, and international partners.

Border security is the largest sustained surveillance mission in the US homeland — thousands of miles of sensor coverage, tens of thousands of daily encounters, and a persistent technology-refresh cycle as smugglers adapt. Cartel drone surveillance of US patrols, ultralight aircraft smuggling, narco-submarines, and rapid technology diffusion (encrypted radios, thermal cameras, GPS spoofing) mean the mission demands the same sensing + counter-UAS + fused-C2 pattern the DoD runs against peer adversaries. It's also the largest civil-military integration in the US — DoD directly supports DHS with detection, transport, and infrastructure.
