OVERVIEW
FLRAA is the U.S. Army's Black Hawk successor for the assault helicopter fleet. Bell's V-280 Valor tiltrotor won the competition in 2022 against a Sikorsky-Boeing coaxial-rotor offering. FLRAA delivers roughly double the range and speed of the UH-60M with comparable payload. The program is a core element of the Army's Future Vertical Lift portfolio alongside the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA — cancelled in 2024). Publicly stated goals include first-unit-equipped by 2030 and a several-thousand-airframe production run through the 2040s.
