OVERVIEW

Small turbine propulsion — turbojets, small turbofans, and microturbines under roughly 1,000 pounds of thrust — is the propulsive foundation for the growing class of attritable and expendable systems: loitering munitions, cruise missile derivatives, decoy drones, and one-way attack UAS. Historically a supplier-constrained industry (Williams International, Rolls-Royce North America, Kratos Turbine Technologies), demand from Replicator, ULCAS, and cruise missile modernization has driven capacity expansion. The technology's central constraint is cost per unit: engines that must survive one flight are engineered differently from engines expected to accumulate thousands of hours.
