OVERVIEW

IVAS is the U.S. Army's head-worn mixed-reality system for close combat soldiers. Built on a militarized derivative of Microsoft's HoloLens, IVAS overlays maps, targets, sensor feeds, and blue-force tracking on the soldier's field of view. The program went through multiple test cycles that surfaced weight, thermal, and visual latency issues, driving a partial redesign (IVAS 1.2, IVAS Next). Public reporting through 2025 indicated the Army was committed to the capability while narrowing initial fielding scope. IVAS is the reference architecture for the Army's Soldier Borne Sensor & compute strategy — the endpoint of tactical JADC2 for the dismounted soldier.
