Constellation-Class Frigate (FFG-62)

The Constellation-class is the U.S. Navy's new guided-missile frigate, adapted from the Italian FREMM parent design under contract with Marinette Marine. It is intended to complement the DDG-51 destroyer fleet in blue-water surface warfare, escort, and anti-submarine warfare while introducing a lower-cost, faster-to-produce hull class. The lead ship, USS Constellation (FFG-62), has undergone weight-growth and design changes since award, with delivery rebaselined multiple times per public GAO reporting. Publicly stated program objectives include a class of at least 20 frigates following the Littoral Combat Ship retirement.
