Sentinel ICBM (LGM-35A)

Sentinel is the U.S. Air Force's replacement for the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile and its associated launch infrastructure. The program encompasses the missile, launch facility renovation across three missile fields, and an integrated command-and-control upgrade. Sentinel is the land leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. In January 2024 the Secretary of the Air Force notified Congress of a Nunn-McCurdy breach — cost growth exceeding 25% over the Acquisition Program Baseline. A subsequent review restructured the program with a new baseline and schedule; publicly stated goals kept the missile system substantially unchanged while reshaping the ground-facility scope.
